Motomu Ishigaki is a cinematographer based in New York City and Tokyo.
He was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. At an early age, he encountered Robert Capa’s photography, which sparked his interest in visual arts. His passion toward visual storytelling led him to New York City in 2003. After earning a B.A. in Film Production from Brooklyn College, he has worked on several critically acclaimed feature films including Ryuichi Sakamoto: CODA which was an official selection at the 74th Venice International Film Festival.
A short film, Memoir which he directed and co-DPed was officially selected at the Miami Fashion Film Festival and La Jolla Fashion Film Festival and nominated for International Fashion Film award. A feature film, Neko to Jichan which he DPed was theatrically released nationwide in Japan in early 2019. The NETFLIX original documentary film, It Takes A Lunatic which he co-DPed was officially premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival. His DPed feature film, almost people will be released in theaters in September 2023.
Also, he worked as a camera operator for a film, Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus (2023) and Amazon Prime, Modern Love Tokyo Episode 5, directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (2022).

1984年東京生まれ。2003年渡米。ニューヨーク市立ブルックリン大学映画学部卒業後、就労ビザを取得。撮影部と照明部としてフリーランスを開始。ニューヨークを拠点に映画、ドラマ、コマーシャル、PVなどの現場で働く。同時に「Ryuichi Sakamoto: CODA」や「ある船頭の話」などの日本映画/日米合作にも携わる。監督と共同撮影監督を兼ねた映画「Memoir」が2014 International Fashion Film Awardsにノミネートされる。また撮影監督を務めた映画「ねことじいちゃん」が、2019年春に日本で劇場公開された。共同で撮影監督を行ったNETFLIXオリジナル ドキュメンタリー映画「It Takes A Lunatic」が、2019年トライベッカ映画祭で、正式上映される。2021年夏に撮影を担当した長編映画「シュシュシュの娘」が劇場公開された。2023年秋に、撮影した長編映画「almost people」が劇場公開される。
また、カメラオペレーターとして 「Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus」や、Amazon Prime Drama「Modern Love Tokyo 彼を信じていた13日間」に参加している。
